Confession: We Are All Equally Sinners

April 25, 2015

There is a human tendency to veer away from vulnerability. We tend to want to make ourselves look just a bit better than reality. The idea of exposing our failures and shortcomings isn’t terribly attractive. Too often we hide the real us from one another and live too much the lie. How refreshing it is to come clean. Maybe if we thought of church as not such a saintly place but more “Sinners Anonymous,” the place where we shake hands and say, “Hi, I’m _____, and I’m a sinner.” Imagine the authentic fellowship with all those to whom we speak the word of grace, “In Christ your sins are forgiven.”
