This week we have been reminded that we live in a world with much despair. We’ve almost come to live in the shadow of Murphy’s Law: “Anything than can go wrong, will go wrong.” We can slide toward hopelessness, but Jesus calls us to abundant and new life filled with positive expectations – the very essence of hope. Not a “Pollyanish” sentimentalism avoiding reality, but confidence that no matter the tragedies that come, Jesus gives us hope. Hope for healing, hope for better days, hope for a painless eternity, hope that all injustice will be set right.
