Prayer: The Opening of Our Heart to God

The disciples were followers of God who practiced the Jewish faith, and prayer was certainly part of their heritage. The Old Testament is marked with prayer. So why did they ask Jesus to teach them to pray? Was it something they heard in his prayers? A Pew research survey from 2013 revealed that 55% of Americans say they pray every day. For the last 25 years, the percentage of agreement with this statement has remained at 76%: “Prayer is an important part of my daily life.” What do we need to learn about this much-used practice? Do we use it to get something or to line up with God’s will? Mark 1:35, Psalm 63:1, Acts 6:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
