The Scriptures call us to be sympathetic to one another, to love one another, to honor one another above yourself. However, being distractedly engaged everywhere allows for focused engagement nowhere. In a texting world of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Quickfire, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, and whatever is next, we can be “together” and not connected. Like bookworms of yesteryear, today more of us than ever can be lost in our electronic world, maybe present physically, but so concerned to be connected to our platform of choice that we miss the people right in front of us. To be part of “relational engagement” demands that we be present.
